APPLICANTS ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION FOR A GRANT
1. Applications should be for proposed or newly commenced research, normally grants will not be given for research that is complete or substantially complete. However, consideration will be given to the publication of research that meets the criteria below.
2. Applicants for a grant must be able to demonstrate that archive material held in Cumbria Record Offices (Carlisle, Whitehaven, Barrow and Kendal) provides the foundation for their project.
3. Researchers may make only one application per project but they may make additional applications for new projects.
4. FOCAS committee members may apply for a grant, provided their project meets the criteria in 1 & 2 above, and they are not members of the Research Grant Sub Committee
5. The application to be made on the official form and to include an independent reference to verify the project is of suitable standard to qualify for a grant.
AMOUNT AND FREQUENCY OF GRANTS
1. A sum of £700 will be set aside each year to assist researchers using Cumbria Record Offices for their research projects.
2. The £700 will normally be allocated in two payouts of up to £350 each.
3. A three member Research Grant Sub-Committee [RGSC] selected from the main FOCAS committee will receive applications for grants and make recommendations to the main committee.
4. The RGSC will be assisted by members of Cumbria Archives staff in determining that the project is feasible and that the information sought is held in one or more of the record offices.
5. Applications for grants are to be submitted by 31st January and by 31st July annually. Applications will be vetted during February & August by the RGSC and their recommendations placed for ratification before the FOCAS Committee at the meetings in March and September respectively.
