RESEARCH GRANTS [revised May 2011]
APPLICATIONS FROM RESEARCHERS WHO ARE NOT MEMBERS OF FOCAS ARE WELCOMED
FOCAS research grants, up to a maximum of £350, are offered to support research and writing undertaken using sources currently held in the four Cumbrian record offices at Carlisle, Whitehaven, Kendal and Barrow. No limit is placed on the periodisation of study or the field of regional history being pursued. Consideration may also be given to work carried out in local studies libraries in the county. It is a retrospective condition of a successful application that a 400 – word summary of each completed work be sent to FOCAS for inclusion in its Newsletter, in addition to one copy of each successfully published item of research to be placed on deposit in the record office in Carlisle. Applicants might also like to consider how their work may feed into the newly launched Victoria County History of Cumbria (VCH) via the Cumbria County History Trust and/or Transactions of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society (CWAAS).
