The New Cumbria Archives Centre

(Carlisle Record Office)

The Cumbria Archive Centre in Carlisle (formerly known as the Cumbria Record Office) is a new, high-tech archive building and moving 26,000 boxes of archives, 1,300 shelves of books and 2,000 shelves of plans into their purpose-built new home.

Directions by car from North, East & South

From M6 J42 take the A6 exit and follow London Road

until you see Aldi supermarket on the left.  Turn left into Petteril Bank Road

and the Centre is on the left after the turn to Lightfoot Drive. Parking is available.

 

Directions by car from the West

Follow signs for A6 South and follow Botchergate/London Road

until you see Aldi supermarket on the right.  Turn right into Petteril Bank Road

and follow the directions above.

 By public transport from City centre

 

There is a taxi rank opposite the railway station. 

Buses 60 and 63 from the bus station in Lowther Street.
